Barry Sheil and Sarah Quigley ran the fastest parkrun times in Ireland this weekend

Whilst there was a 14:50 clocking at St Anne’s parkrun the runner failed to hand in their barcode meaning Barry Sheil of Longford AC topped this week’s men’s leader board. Sheil, who ran a 10km PB of 32:55 to win Longford 10km in March, took a significant chunk off his previous parkrun best with 15:33 at Mullingar.

Sarah Quigley had a strong run at Malahide finishing over two and a half minutes ahead of the second placed female athlete finishing in 18:50. The Raheny Shamrock athlete has run five parkruns and has a best of 18:41, which she posted in 2017 and equalled this January at the Malahide event.

Evergreen V55 Tommy Hughes was second fastest man this week running 16:27 at MUSA Cookstown. Hughes who ran 2:13:59 over the marathon distance in 1992 has had a fantastic year clocking 2:30:15 at this year’s Rotterdam Marathon.

Leann Gibson was the second fastest woman this week, a regular name in the top 10, Gibson was only a few seconds slower than her parkrun PB of 18:46. Victoria Park and Connswater AC’s Gibson won races such as the Portrush 5 miler in 2018 and will be looking for a good season ahead after already posting 3:01:48 at the Belfast City Marathon this May.

Third fastest man, Alexander Wallace, revised his own course record at Royal Canal to run 16:28 and Dearbhla Sheridan, third fastest woman claimed a big new PB at Belfast Victoria in 19:01.
