Club runners can apply now apply for championship entry into next year’s UK capital marathon.

The application process for runners hoping to earn a championship entry place for the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon has got underway.

The 2019 UK capital marathon takes place on Sunday, 28 April, and to be eligible for championships entry, male runners need to have completed a marathon in 2:45:00 or faster, while the time for female runners is 3:15:00 or faster.

A half marathon in 1:15:00 (men) or 1:30:00 (women) are also considered qualifying performance times.

The qualifying time from either a marathon or half marathon must have been achieved after 1 January 2017.

The final requirement is that you’re a member of an athletics club associated with British Athletics. Additionally, you must be registered with your National Governing Body – England Athletics, Scotland Athletics, Welsh Athletics and Athletics Northern Ireland.

Runners need to submit their application by 17:00 on Monday 7 January 2019. Once you have applied, your application will be checked and if successful, you will receive a link, to complete and pay for your entry.

The closing date for completing and paying for your entry (if successful) is 17:00 on Monday 21 January 2019.

The link to apply for championship entry can be found here.

Please note
Following the announcement last year that the Brighton Half Marathon course in 2017 was 146m short of the 13.1-mile distance, the championship qualification process has been reviewed.

Times recorded at the Brighton Half Marathon which runners hope to use for championship time qualification for the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon will be accepted if they meet the following conditions:

Men: 31 seconds will be added to the official finish time.
Women: 38 seconds will be added to the official finish time.
