Charlotte Penfold and Paul Pollock ran the fastest parkrun times in the UK this weekend (13th May).

Our weekly parkrun top ten is sponsored by 1001 Running Tips by our editor Robbie Britton. Want to run faster at parkrun in 2023 or your next marathon then order your copy today.(PBs not guaranteed, but very likely).

Two runners broke our respective male and female regular winning time barriers of 15 and 17 minutes, with Paul Pollock and Charlotte Penfold both having great runs this Saturday morning.

North Sields Polytechnic AC athlete Penfold was pretty close to her parkrun PB of 16:52 from two weeks ago with another sub 17 minute showing at Rising Sun parkrun. A year already packed with cross country and road relays performances, the summer ahead looks promising for there north east runner and if there is a marathon in 2023 we predict a big PB.

Paul Pollock is no stranger to the big stage as an Irish Olympic marathoner, but some say topping our weekly rankings is akin to getting selected to represent with the five big rings. They’re wrong, it isn’t, but it’s still a good achievement for a Saturday morning and 2:10 marathoner Pollock ran 14:29 at Belfast Victoria.

The following pack

At Hove Prom it was Daisy Glover who ran the second fastest time this week with 17:04, whilst in third place with 17:09 it was Lucy Charles-Barclay who would have been disappointed there wasn’t a parkswim to start the event as she would almost certainly come out on top given her form at the PTO European Open recently.

In St Albans it was home club man James McMurray who ran 15:04 to finish second male. It seems McMurray is a member of both St Albans Striders and St Albans AC, so the middle distance star knows how to represent. After a 1:46.96 800m PB last year and already going strong over 600 & 800m indoors we don’t think this one second parkrun PB will be the last thing celebrated in 2023.

Joint third saw a dead heat for Ben Cole and Gavin Tomlinson with both running 15:11 at Dulwich and Stretford parkruns respectively. We think they should organise to go to the same event next weekend for a big of a burn-up.

The fastest course?

Gavin did have the joy of bringing glory to Stretford parkrun as both him and Tom Charles made the top ten and it was the only event featured twice. Although if I have missed one I wouldn’t be surprised as I called a bicycle fork a spoon in a different article today.
