Virginie Barrand and Dominic Jones ran the fastest parkrun times in the UK this weekend (5th August).

Our weekly parkrun top ten is sponsored by 1001 Running Tips by our editor Robbie Britton. Want to run faster at parkrun in 2023 or your next marathon then order your copy today.(PBs not guaranteed, but very likely).

Two runners who have had success on the trails and the tarmac were our fastest ladies today, with Virginie Barrand, who has set a 2:37 marathon PB at Valencia this year, the quickest with 16:50 at Aberdeen parkrun. The Metro Aberdeen RRC athlete equalled her own parkrun PB from the same event in August 2021. How’s that for consistency!

Dominic Jones was only a handful of seconds over 15 minutes today at Huntingdon parkrun with 15:05. This was our fastest male run of the weekend and a 22 second PB for the 2:21 marathoner. After a 2022 that was full of PBs this year hasn’t seen as many but this parkrun will be the first of a few more we reckon.

From the mountains to the park

It’s not long since Scout Adkin was charging up hills in Portugal to win WMRA World Cup races and winning Scottish National Cross Country championships, but a sub 17 minutes parkrun is always a good way to start a Saturday. 16:59 is a 13 second parkrun PB and the first time under 17 minutes for out and back course on the old railway line trails from Keswick.

At Folkestone parkrun in the south it was Charlie Brisley who finished first with 15:08. The Deal triathlete, who ran his first half marathon this year to win Hastings Half Marathon in 71:03, has a parkrun PB of 14:53 and 5000m and 5k PBs of 14:15.

Just a smidge over 17 minutes was Ellie Stevens-Meany with 17:01 at Long Eaton parkrun and it was enough for third place in the rankings. It’s another 18 seconds from the Birchfield Harriers’ parkrun best, following on from a 16:17 5k PB set this year Raiders 5K in Las Vegas, USA.

At Storey’s Field it was Charlie Wakefield who beat everyone else in the park to the line with a time of 15:15, but not everyone else in the country as Mohammed Hussein ran the same time at Abbey Park parkrun as well. Both chaps share third spot this weekend.

The fastest course?

It looks like Scout Adkin and Harry Lancaster did enough this week to secure the fastest event for Keswick parkrun. As one I’ve run before I can attest to it being a quick course and it often pops up on Mr. Lancaster’s running Instagram account too.
