Katie Synge-Curtis and Simon Heath ran the fastest parkrun times in the UK this weekend (16th September).

Our weekly parkrun top ten is sponsored by the British 24hr team, who are crowdfunding for the World 24hr Running Championships in Taiwan, this December. If you can support, or the share the link here, it would be greatly appreciated.

We tried to let AI write last week’s top 10 round-up but we didn’t win many fans with that, so this week it’s back to normal. And by normal we mean some Power of 10 research and a slight risk of bad puns.

Katie Synge-Curtis was the fastest female this week with a strong 17:11 at Exmouth parkrun. It’s a 20 second parkrun PB for the former Elite ITU Triathlete who now runs for the Hereford Couriers and the Royal Navy. The 2:50 marathoner has been running a lot of parkruns this year and it’s clearly looking good for the second half of 2023.

Simon Heath was the quickest bloke, running 15:06 at Seaford Beach parkrun, which we assume is next to the sea. The Brighton Phoenix runner took some more seconds off his recent 2023 parkrun PB and it’s on the back of some stellar performances this year including a 66:30 at The Big Half just two weekends ago.

The best of the rest

Hannah Taunton features often in our parkrun rankings and it’s great to see the decorated Paralympian in the second spot with her fastest time of the year, 17:21 at Severn Bridge parkrun. Lucy Armitage ran the exact same time at Alexandra parkrun, Moss Side and it was a 14 second PB for the U20 Sale Harrier who has a bundle of PBs this year already.

Just one second back of Simon Heath, but maybe some kind of medieval relative, Jack Heathwood ran 15:07 at Victoria parkrun in Glasgow. There is some excellent range to the PBs ran by the sub 15 minute 5000m in 2023, with a 25.89 indoor 200m PB and all the way to a 69:40 half marathon.

Ben Leaman was the third fastest male runner in 15:12 at Storey’s Field parkrun. It’s an eight second parkrun best for the 2:26 marathoner, who has also ran 67:35 for the half this year so there might be an autumn marathon PB on the cards.

The Fastest Course?

Three courses featured twice, Exmouth, Storey’s Field and Rickmansworth, but Exmouth had a 1st and a 5th so took the title.
