The Classic Run Series will offer runners a new experience at iconic racecourses across the UK.

A new running race series has launched for 2019 at iconic horse racing courses across the UK. The first three events take place in the autumn of next year at Cheltenham, Aintree and the Newmarket’s Rowley Mile.

Each of the racecourses are renowned for being the homes of the Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup, The Randox Health Grand National and the QIPCO 2000 Guineas.

Launched by Hollicom Events in partnership with Reach Plc, the UK’s largest publisher, and The Jockey Club, the series of new mass participation running events promises flat and fast running. Additionally, affiliated club runners will receive 10% off the entry fee.

Double Olympian and European 5000m silver medalist Eilish McColgan said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Classic Run Series as a brand ambassador at these brilliant new events. Runners are always on the lookout for a different kind of experience and the Classic Run Series will be just that.

“I’ll be taking part myself and I’m sure these events will quickly become fixtures on the calendar for the club running community. There is also a large prize money pot which is an extra incentive to take part.”

The first event will take place at Cheltenham on Sunday, September 1, followed by Aintree a week later, before concluding at Newmarket on Sunday, October 20.

British international Luke Traynor, who is the third fastest Scottish athlete ever over the half marathon, is planning to take part in the Aintree Classic 10km Run.

“I love this idea,” said Traynor. “I’ve seen the courses and they are fast, flat and atmospheric given the history around each venue.

“It’s a great new opportunity for top runners to compete in a unique setting. I’m really looking forward to it.”
