After a fantastic season the five-time British record holder is ready to go again.

Double European indoor champion Laura Muir is set to compete at next year’s Müller Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham on February 16.

Muir was recently named Scottish athlete of the year for a third time after a hugely successful 2018, which included two world indoor medals, European 1500m gold, and the IAAF Diamond League title.

The British endurance star, who also qualified as a vet earlier this year having graduated from her Veterinary degree at Glasgow University, ended the year ranked as the world’s number one over 1500m.

“Having won my two world indoor medals there as well as breaking the British 1000m record back in 2017, it’s really exciting to be returning to the Arena Birmingham for the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham next February,” said the 25-year-old.

“Historically the Muller Indoor Grand Prix is an event I’ve always managed to perform well at, and where Birmingham is concerned I know that as an athlete you’re always in for an amazing atmosphere at what is the showpiece indoor event of the season.

“With the event being ranked as the world’s best indoor meeting, I know that there will be lots of fantastic races with many of the top athletes on the planet, and I can’t wait to be part of that. I would love to win again in front of the fantastic British fans that’d be a great start to another big season for me in 2019.”

The Müller Indoor Grand Prix has seen some memorable and famous performances in recent years from British stars such as Mo Farah, Dina Asher-Smith and Muir herself, with the prospect of more memorable British moments in February to come for the Birmingham crowds.

The SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships, which take place just a week before the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham, will bring the best athletes in Britain together to battle not only for the title of becoming British indoor champion, but for their spot on the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the 2019 European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

Major Events Director for British Athletics, Cherry Alexander said: “The Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham is the stand out indoor meeting in the world and is an amazing opportunity for fans to see our British stars like Laura up close and personal against the very best athletes in the world.

“There’s a real buzz and excitement in Birmingham with the Commonwealth Games less than four years away and this will be one of the biggest events in the city as it counts down to the Games, so I’d urge people to purchase their tickets straight away and get involved in what will be a fabulous weekend.”
