Britain’s best will battle in Birmingham with team places for the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow up for grabs.

Laura Muir and Andy Butchart are among the athletes confirmed to battle it out at the SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships on February 9-10 at the Arena Birmingham.

Double world indoor medallist Muir will race once again in Birmingham after dazzling the West Midlands crowd with two medals at the IAAF World Indoor championships last March before European and IAAF Diamond League title heroics.

Butchart has already declared his wish to win gold in Glasgow but he will have to navigate the domestic opponents to qualify for the biggest event of the indoor season this year.

Eilish McColgan, fresh from a maiden European outdoor medal in Berlin, will go into 2019 with confidence, seeking to hit the same highs early in the year alongside securing further podium spots on both the domestic and international stages.

Fellow Scottish athletes Chris O’Hare, Lynsey Sharp and Eilidh Doyle will also have the added incentive in Birmingham to make the GB team for the home championships in March.

Also confirmed is defending 60m champion Asha Philip, Andrew Pozzi, Jazmin Sawyers, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Tom Bosworth.
