Eliud Kipchoge is the marathon king but Canada’s women also break records at the Berlin Marathon.

Canadian female runners made history of their own at the Berlin Marathon, with two athletes producing personal best performances to break the veteran W45 and W40 national records.

Three years shy of her 50th Birthday, Catherine Watkins ran a personal best of 2:40:11 to break the W45 national record by nine second.

The impressive 47 year-old crossed the line in 22nd place to take over two minutes off her marathon best of 2:42:35 from 2015.

Watkins wasn’t the only Canadian veteran female athlete to impress in the German capital.

Lyndsay Tessier, who celebrated her 40th birthday at the beginning of September, ran a six-minute PB of 2:30:47 to finish 12th.

Tessier’s stellar run broke the previous W40 national record by over two minutes.

The 40 year-old finished just behind debutant Rachel Cliff, who crossed the line 2:28:53, less than a minute off the Canadian marathon record.
